Chinese third-party Internet payment platform Alipay.com has inked a cooperation deal with the international credit card organization MasterCard, to officially launch payment services with MasterCard in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
With the cooperation, holders of credit cards with the sign of “MasterCard” in these three regions will be able to buy things on Taobao.com, Alipay.com’s sister e-commerce company, and complete the payments via Alipay.com directly with their MasterCard cards.
At the same time, Alipay.com will fully support credit cards issued by the two top credit card organizations, MasterCard and Visa, in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, further breaking their payment barriers for online shopping from mainland websites.
Alipay.com said that with the launch of this new service, overseas customers can complete online payments via Alipay.com with their MasterCard or Visa cards and the entire process is equally convenient as it is used in the domestic Chinese market. The company revealed that MasterCard’s credit cards issued by 20 banks and Visa’s credit cards issued by 21 banks in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan now support payments on Alipay.com, covering major credit cards user groups in these three regions.
