Chinese Netizen Number Reached 457 Million In 2010

China Internet Network Information Center has published the 27th China Internet Development Report, stating that by the end of December 2010, the number of Chinese netizens had reached 457 million, an increase of 73.3 million compared with the same period in 2009.

The report also said that the number of mobile Internet users in China reached 303 million, an increase of 69.3 million over 2009. At the same time, the mobile Internet users accounted for 66.2% of total Internet users in China. The ratio was 60.8% in 2009.

CNNIC revealed that in 2010, about 45.8% netizens in China were attacked by viruses and 21.8% were harmed by Internet account number or password thefts. The organization believed that the enhancement of Internet security needs the participation of third-party companies; and measures like website identity verification and data encryption should be adopted to help Chinese netizens and websites establish a comprehensive prevention mechanism.

Nowadays, small- and medium-sized enterprises continue to join the Internet marketing fray. The report shows 92.7% Chinese SMEs have connected their businesses with the Internet and the rate is almost 100% for large enterprises. Meanwhile, 43% Chinese enterprises have independent websites or online stores on e-commerce platforms.
