Rovio Opens Angry Birds Store On Tmall.com In China

Rovio Entertainment Limited, developer of Angry Birds, has further expanded into the Chinese market by opening an official flagship store on Tmall.com, the B2C section of the Chinese e-commerce website Taobao.com.

The new Internet store will mainly sell genuine games and paraphernalia from Angry Birds, including T-shirts and mobile phone covers with the pictures of Angry Birds. There are currently over 30 kinds of products offered in the new store and the prices range from CNY9.8 to CNY299. In addition, demos of three editions of Angry Birds games are available, allowing consumers to experience the games by downloading from the store.

According to comments made to local media by Huang Zesen, sales manager of the authorized reseller of Rovio, the Angry Birds flagship store on Tmall.com will be similar to Apple’s App Store, and it will become an important games sales channel for Angry Birds. Meanwhile, it will be an exclusive sales channel for the latest Angry Birds games for PCs.

With reportedly 100 million downloads, China has become the second largest market for Angry Birds, following the United States. Angry Birds’ total downloads worldwide has reached 600 million, according to local media reports.
