American e-commerce group Amazon has officially located its Asia-Pacific headquarters in the Chaoyang District of Beijing.
While locating its new regional headquarters, the company also transferred its American cloud computing center, which is involved a project investment of USD290 million, to the new location. Under the agreement signed by Amazon and the government of Chaoyang district, Beijing, Amazon will locate its Asia-Pacific headquarters and its tax and cloud computing center in the district; meanwhile, Chaoyang district will provide certain policy support for the development of the company.
Wang Hanhua, president for Amazon, told local media that Beijing’s central business district in Chaoyang is a gathering place for Chinese headquarters and it is a gathering area for Chinese Internet talents, making it a better place to develop e-commerce. On one hand, choosing CBD to establish Amazon’s new regional headquarters represents that the company is optimistic about the development of e-commerce in China; on the other hand, the company will bring leading technologies to China and promote the development of Internet technology in the country.
Amazon’s global headquarters is in Seattle. With annual revenue of USD34.2 billion in 2010, the group’s business footprint reaches North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
