Tencent’s VP To Lead Video Business Division

Chinese Internet company Tencent announced that Liu Chunning, former general manager of the online video business at Tencent, has resigned due to undisclosed personal health reasons, and Sun Zhonghuai, vice president of Tencent, will take over the duties.

With the appointment, Sun will be responsible for the overall strategic planning and operation of the online video division, which is a core business under Tencent’s network media business cluster.

Liu joined Tencent in 2004 and held several executive positions in Tencent’s e-commerce business department, enterprise development department, and strategy development department. In April 2011, Liu led the comprehensive upgrade of Tencent’s online video business. With a series of measures that refined operations, the online video business realized triple traffic growth during the 18 months after its re-launch. Meanwhile, its online video advertising achieved an operating revenue growth of 100% in 2012.

Su said the results achieved by Liu and the team are recognized by the company. Tencent video will continue to depend on the integrated strength of the entire network media business of the company to establish the largest online video media platform in China and to bring an excellent online video experience to users.

At the same time, Su said Tencent video will implement its strategic layout bases on three cores, including big data, big resource and big platform, in 2013.
