Facebook Sues South Korean Analytics Firm Rankwave – TwistArticle
Facebook sues analytics firm Rankwave over accused data misuse of users. They have now filed lawsuits to the South Korean data analytics company.
Rankwave is a data analytics company which ranks apps on their platforms. Facebook filed the lawsuit on Friday in a California Superior Court in San Mateo County. Rankwave operates at least 30 apps through Facebook and they used Facebook data in order to market and sell their own services, claims Facebook.
Jessica Romero, director of platform enforcement in Facebook said on late Friday that, “Facebook was investigating Rankwave’s data practices in relation to its advertising and marketing services,”.
“Rankwave failed to co-operate with our efforts to verify their compliance with our policies, which we require of all developers using our platform.” said, Romero.
Facebook accused that Rankwave failed to provide evidence that it was adhering to Facebook’s terms of service and did not comply with a cease and desist request sent to the company in February. In failing to comply with Facebook’s rules, Rankwave “harmed Facebook’s reputation, public trust, and goodwill, and caused Facebook to spend resources investigating and redressing Rankwave’s wrongful conduct.”
According to court documents filed in court, Facebook is accusing Rankwave of using at least 30 different apps to “track and analyze” comments and likes on Facebook pages. Facebook also says Rankwave had a consumer app which would calculate a “social influence score”.
Romero said on a blog post that, “By filing the lawsuit, we are sending a message to developers that Facebook is serious about enforcing our policies, including requiring developers to cooperate with us during an investigation.”
Last year after the Cambridge Analytica incident where they get data of 87 million Facebook users through the use of a quiz app developed by an outside researcher, Facebook had suspended nearly 200 apps.
