BENTONG: Malaysians from different races have condemned a Facebook user who insulted the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah through a social media posting recently.
Representatives from the Malay, Chinese, Indian and Sikh community gathered at the district police station here today to lodge a report and urge the authorities to nab the individual, and punish them accordingly.
After making the police report, the group comprising men and women held up placards that read “arrest the ‘pengkhianat’ (traitor)”, “respect the monarchy” and “do not cause tension”.
Jaringan Cemerlang Masyarakat Bersatu chairman Datuk Jasvir Singh Ram Singh, who led the group, said such rude and provocative behaviour should not be compromised as Malaysians from various race groups have been always living in peace and harmony.
He said the insulting remarks against the Queen cannot be tolerated as Malaysians have been taught to always support and respect the monarchy.
“The insulting words of certain individuals have upset the multiracial communities in Pahang as this should have never happened and could jeopardise our relationship. The authorities should investigate and take appropriate action which will serve as a reminder to others.
“If action is not taken then we are worried that others might commit similar acts in the future which could create disunity among the people,” he said after making the police report here today.
On Jan 8, a Facebook user described Tunku Azizah as “nenek sihir rasis” in Mandarin – believed to be in response to the Queen’s move to use Jawi on her Twitter account, following controversy over its teaching in vernacular schools.
Several other Facebook users also joined in and posted sensitive remarks against the Queen.
Since then, several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have lodged police reports against the owner of the Facebook account “Nengtung Ting” and several other social media users for posting the insulting comments.
Meanwhile Low Siu Hou, 23, who was among those present, said as Malaysians, one should respect each other and not commit irresponsible acts which could threat the close ties enjoyed by the multiracial community in Malaysia.
“This is not how we Malaysians should behave and I do not agree with the social media remarks. People should be more responsible on what they post on the social media and not hurt others with their offensive words,” he said.
