The White House, the official residence of the US President, has “unfollowed” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social networking site Twitter.
According to Indian media reports, the White House had been following only Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian President, apart from key US officials.
Until a week ago, the White House had 19 followers, but now that number has dropped to 13, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kavand being “unfollowed”.
The White House has also unfollowed the accounts of the Indian Prime Minister’s Office and the Indian Embassy in the United States.
According to media reports, the Indian accounts were followed by the White House on Twitter three weeks ago while the US and India were discussing the drug of malaria chloroquine.
The White House has also unfollowed the US Ambassador to India Ken Juster and the US Embassy.
In this regard, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Indian opposition party Congress, expressed frustration over the White House’s move and demanded that the Foreign Ministry should take notice.
India has banned the export of 14 drugs, including chloroquine and paracetamol, a drug used to treat coronavirus patients, prompting the US president to threaten India with retaliation if it does not provide malaria drugs than India should be prepared for the action in response.
Later, the US President’s threat worked out and India immediately lifted the ban on the export of these drugs.
