The volume of cross-border e-commerce in China is growing 56 percent annually

Qu Weixi, vice president of the Research Institute for International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, said that the average annual growth rate of cross-border e-commerce volume in China in the past three years was 56 percent.

Zhou provided information about cross-border e-commerce activities in China at an e-commerce forum held in Xining City, central Qinghai Province, the previous day.  “Trade frictions and the COVID-19 epidemic have affected traditional international trade,” said Zhou Weixi.  However, the volume of cross-border e-commerce in China is growing rapidly.  The increase in cross-border e-commerce has made it possible to improve the structure of traditional trade and manufacturing sectors and to develop companies active in logistics, finance and foreign trade.  “Cross-border e-commerce has become one of the new growth engines for China’s foreign trade.”

Noting that since 2016, China has established cooperation with 22 countries in the field of e-commerce, Zhu said that cooperation in e-commerce has also increased China’s level of freedom of trade with other countries.
