Case registered against Assam minister Himanta Biswa for false claim on social media – India

A case has been registered against Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly spreading false information on social media, days after he claimed that ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans were raised by some supporters of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) at Silchar airport while they welcomed AIUDF chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal at the airport.

Guwahati city police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta told India Today TV over phone that a case has been registered against Himanta Biswa Sarma at Bhangagarh police station.

Gupta said the case was registered after a General Secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) had lodged an FIR against the Assam minister.

According to the reports, some supporters of AIUDF on November 5had allegedly raised slogans at Silchar airport while they welcomed AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal and that video went viral on social media on November 6.

Himanta Biswa Sarma and a brigade of BJP leaders on November 5 slammed the supporters of AIUDF’s Badruddin Ajmal, alleging that they had raised “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans at the Silchar airport but the opposition party refuted it and said the BJP twisted the “Aziz Khan Zindabad” slogan.

AIUDF also said that the entire incident was a “political conspiracy” and claimed that the people who gathered at the airport had shouted ‘Aziz Khan Zindabad’ and not ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.

On Monday, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) General Secretary Ranjan Bora had lodged an FIR against Himanta Biswa Sarma at Bhangagarh police station. The FIR stated that the Assam minister made certain remark on social media with an intention to create religious tension between two communities through a misleading statement and false Facebook post.
