The opening ceremony of the event was held on Friday, 23rd July 2021 and the matches of different games are started playing from today which will be conducted till Sunday, 8th August 2021. A piece of good news for the Indians is that India has won their 1st medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics which is held in Tokyo. This first victory of India player on foreign land has raised India’s head with pride.

Who is Mirabai Chanu?

India’s star weightlifter, Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the category of women’s 49kg. This medal is second India’s weightlifting medal in the Olympics, as the first medal was won by Karnam Malleswari who received the bronze medal at Sydney Olympics in the year 2000 and now after 11 years, an athlete has won a medal in the Olympics overall.

With this medal, from India Mirabai has also become universal 17th individual Olympic medallist (1900 to 2021). Previously, Mirabai had failed to win a single clean lift in the jerk and clean in the year 2016, Rio Olympics. The way she came back is completely mind-blowing and impressive. Just because of her India is finally open the winning medal account in this Tokyo Olympics and all the credit goes to Mirabai and her dedication to winning.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu was born on 8th August 1994 in Nongpok Kakching which is in Imphal, Manipur and she is an Indian weightlifter? She makes India proud after winning the Silver Medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics/ Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the category of women’s 49 kg. She became the first athlete who brings the first medal in the current event. Apart from this Chanu has won the world championships and many medals at the Commonwealth Games.

She is also honored with Padma Shri by the Government of India for making her contribution to the field of sports. She received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in the year 2018. In the year 2017, Chanu won the Gold Medal in the category of Women’s 48 KH by making a record of 194 Kg in total. Presently, Mirabai Chanu became the 1st woman Indian weightlifter who qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after securing 2nd position. She is currently 26 years old and created a world record by lifting a huge 119 kg in jerk and clean.
