India TV Digital conducted a Twitter Poll asking netizens if ‘Insensitive remarks on social media over General Bipin Rawat’s death is akin to misuse of Freedom of Speech, Expression?’
The result of the poll clearly shows that an overwhelming majority of people think that a fringe section was misusing social media to spread hate. When the nation was mourning the irreparable loss, there were a few out on the social media putting out insensitive statements over the incident. A man was arrested in Gujarat for posting derogatory remarks about CDS Rawat’s death. Similary, another person was arrested in Rajasthan’s Tonk for his lewd statement over the martyrdom of bravehearts.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has also come down heavily on people indulging in spreading hate and celebratory messages on social media in connection with death of CDS Rawat and 12 others. He has asked police to book cases immediately and initiate action against those found guilty.
BJP’s Kerala unit has also demanded strong action against those making defaming and derogatory remarks Genera; Bipin Rawat on social media.
