Twitter Reactions: Complete bowling performance brings T20I series victory for India

With a 2-0 lead, India has won the three-match T20I series against England with a game to spare.

With a 1-0 lead in a series and a win from the first game, India walked into Edgbaston to face the hosts England for the second match. Even after some ups and downs, India managed to keep their heads high in the game and won the contest by 49 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Winning the toss, Jos Buttler elected to bowl first, and it was a win-win situation as Rohit Sharma was looking to bat first. India had a terrific start to the innings, thanks to Sharma’s aggressive approach from the very beginning alongside his new opening partner Rishabh Pant. But the power-hitting prowess came to an end when debutant Richard Gleeson came into the attack.

In his very first over, he got the prized wicket of Rohit Sharma (31 off 20) to put a pause on India’s momentum. He returned in his second over and picked up Virat Kohli (1 off 3) and Rishabh Pant (26 off 15) in consecutive balls to add a glorious feather to his cap in his maiden international outing. But even after the three wickets, India managed to end the powerplay with 61 runs.

Even Hardik Pandya (12 off 15) and Suryakumar Yadav (15 off 11) didn’t last long on the field, the batters kept scoring runs and finding the gaps here and then so as to keep the scoreboard ticking. India was put into deeper trouble when Chris Jordan dismissed the duo and Ravindra Jadeja and Dinesh Karthik (12 off 17) took the charge. The latter was dismissed in an unfortunate run-out, but the former got going quickly.

Towards the end, Jordan managed to bag four wickets in total, and except for Jadeja, all other batters were sent walking back to the pavilion soon as India finished the 20-over quota scoring 170 runs at the loss of eight wickets. Jadeja turned as the top run-scorer with his unbeaten 29-ball 46 runs. India had managed to put up a defendable score, but the bowlers had a task surely.

Bowlers shine bright, lead India to yet another victory

The experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar stood up to the challenge and dismissed Jason Roy on the very first ball of the second innings. While England was sulking it in, he struck again in his next over and picked up Jos Buttler (4 off 5), courtesy of a successful appeal from wicketkeeper-batter Pant. Liam Livingstone (15 off 9) was in a destructive mode, but Jasprit Bumrah shut him out in the powerplay.

While it looked like England would chase the score given their powerful batting lineup, Indian bowlers overpowered the English batters and did give them a single opportunity to score. Moeen Ali (35 off 21), yet again, tried to anchor the innings in the middle with his power-hitting but was dismissed shortly by Hardik Pandya, who picked up his first of the day.

Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal bagged two wickets each, Harshal Patel and Hardik took one each whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar added three under his belt as India skittled England out for 121 runs and won the fixture by 49 runs.
