West Indies were asked to bat first and they set up a decent 165 goal for India on Tuesday, August 2 at Warner Park in St Kitts. Aside from Kyle Mayers, no other West Indian batter has survived even 30 runs. Mayers was the top scorer as he smashed eight boundaries and four sixes to hit 73 runs on 50 balls.
India responded with openers Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav going out to bat but the former had to step back as he retired injured. He hit 11 runs from 5 balls with a four and a six.
Suryakumar Yadav started the innings as he smashed eight fours and four sixes to hit 76 runs from 44 balls with an impressive 172.73 batting average. In the 14.3 over, Dominic Drakes threw a full and wide ball and Yadav wanted to take a big step outside the stump but swept it away but he didn’t have control of the racquet. The ball went over the top edge and flew to the fine leg where Alzarri Joseph caught it safely.
Shreyas Iyer hit 24 runs from 27 balls with two limitations, but Akeal Hosein sent him back with a nice flying ball. Iyer used his feet to get to the ball field but went wide of the ball. Devon Thomas from behind the stumps pushed balls away.
Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant then smashed three boundaries and a six to make 33 runs from 26 balls. India scored 165 runs by losing three wickets and won the match by seven wickets. Win that win and they’ll be 2-1 ahead of West Indies.
