Speak Now
WhatsApp’s group calling feature has received an important update. The group call host will now be able to mute people who forget to mute themselves. The feature was long overdue because even though WhatsApp had increased the participants limit, some of the crucial features were missing. However, with this latest update, WhatsApp’s group calling feature will become more useful.
“Some new features for group calls on @WhatsApp. You can now mute or message specific people on a call (great if someone forgets to mute themselves!), and we’ve added a helpful indicator so you can more easily see when more people join large calls,” WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart. Along with the possibility to mute people during group call, WhatsApp will also notify the group call host when more people join large calls.
Back in April 2022, WhatsApp rolled out the possibility to add up to 32 members to a group call. WhatsApp previously allowed only 8 participants to join a group video call at a time. “When you receive a group voice call, the incoming WhatsApp group voice call screen will show the participants currently on the call, and the first contact listed will be the participant that added you. Group voice call history will appear in the CALLS tab. You can tap the call history to view the individual participants from the call. You can also join missed calls if they’re still ongoing,” WhatsApp noted in a blog post.
Here is how you can make a group call on WhatsApp.
— Open the group chat you want to voice call.
— You can tap on group call option if your group has more than 32 participants
— if there are more than 33 participants, you can tao on Voice call and confirm your decision. The first seven people who answer can join the call, and only group members can participate.
— You can also find the contacts you want to add to the call, then tap Voice call.
Cathcart did not reveal when the features will be rolled out. But going by his post on Twitter, the roll out may happen soon
