VARIOUS groups across the Philippines have launched a donation drive for the victims of Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae).

Angat Buhay Foundation said it partnered with Tanging Yaman Foundation to accept donations to aid the Paeng-hit families.

It said affected families were in need of blankets, ready-to-eat food, rice, bottled water, sanitary kits, face masks and alcohol.

In-kind donations may be brought to Loyola School Covered Courts, as well as to Ateneo de Manila University in Katipunan, Quezon City.

Financial donations may be sent to the Tanging Yaman Foundation Inc. Metrobank account number 613-7-613-00046-8.

Caritas Manila also called for donations such as food packs, bedding materials, wash kits and shelter-repair kits.

Care Hope Love-Philippines, also a non-government organization, is also collecting donations. It may be contacted at 0956-716-8476 or marcomickc@gmail.com. Cash donations may be sent through Gcash or Paymaya at 0956-716-8476 (Marco Mick Ramirez).

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Rafael Alejandro IV said they urge donors to coordinate directly with their intended beneficiary local government units to ensure that the process of distribution of donations will be organized.

“Since po ongoing pa po ang rescue operations ng mga local DRRM officers natin and responders, we recommend po to coordinate first with the LGU officials and disaster managers po before going directly po (sa affected areas),” he told Sunstar.

(Since the rescue operations of our local DRRM officers and responders are still ongoing, we recommend coordinating first with the LGU officials and disaster managers before going directly to the affected areas.)

As of Sunday morning, October 30, the NDRRMC said that a total of 932,077 persons or 277,383 families in 2,445 barangays were affected by Paeng.

It said over 168,000 persons or more than 44,800 families were in evacuation centers.

Paeng battered most parts of the country from all regions since Friday, October 28, which resulted in massive floodings and landslides that washed away several houses and claimed dozens of lives, particularly in the Mindanao and Visayas region. (SunStar Philippines)
