A man revealed his go-to travel trick that lets him stretch out his legs on a plane at no extra cost – but it doesn’t always work.

Mike Corey, who is known as @fearlessandfar on TikTok, shared how to adjust your seat so you can get more legroom when the plane is in the air.

In his 21-second video, he said: “There’s a secret legroom button on planes. If you’ve got those thick thunder thighs like I do, the armrest is always in the way. If you’re in an aisle seat, you can’t move it but there is a secret button that allows you to lift it. It frees your legs from the economy nightmare.”

To move the armrest, all you have to do is locate the button on the underside, right above the hinge. Then, you simply press the button while lifting the armrest up. However, it should be noted this button might not be in the same location on every aircraft.

Commenting on his helpful tip, one impressed traveller said: “I never knew this.” Another user added: “May Jesus bless you all.” A third user said: “Bless you handsome.” One more user added: “Thanks! I did not know that and I have travelled from Thailand to Indonesia to China.”

However, others shared their surprise after learning people are only just finding out about this, with them saying it has been around for years. One user said: “They asked me to keep it down last time.” Another user added: “Secret?! It’s been there on many seats for decades.”

Someone else chimed in: “Only a secret to those who don’t already know. Also: not all planes have it.” Another user added: “Please don’t do this unless you have to, the arms don’t move normally so people don’t block the aisles at food time or leave in an emergency.” A final user said: “I did that once and so my leg was very slightly in the aisle. And an attendant hit me with a cart.”
