PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Friday he blocked moves to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte, saying it was a waste of time. Interviewed during a visit to the Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) headquarters, Camp General Guillermo Nakar, in Lucena City, Marcos said he had sent a text message to his allies in Congress, urging them to drop any plan to file an impeachment complaint against Duterte.

VICE President Sara Duterte on Friday failed to appear before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), which had subpoenaed her to explain her remarks to have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez assassinated. Duterte sent her lawyer instead to request a new appointment date. NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the vice president’s lawyer attributed her absence to a House of Representatives hearing scheduled for the same day. The House, however, canceled the hearing to allow Duterte to comply with the NBI subpoena.

OVER 29,000 examinees passed this year’s Nursing Licensure Examinations (NLE), the Professional Regulation Commission’s (PRC) Board of Nursing announced on Friday. The PRC said 29,349 out of 34,534 examinees passed the NLE for an 84.99 percent passing rate.

SANTANINA Tillah Rasul, the country’s first Muslim woman senator, died Thursday at the age of 94. Secretary Almarim Centi Tillah, the Presidential Adviser for Muslim Affairs and Rasul’s younger brother, shared the news of her death with The Manila Times on Friday. Tillah said Rasul’s remains will be taken to Jolo, Sulu, where she will be buried next to her husband, Abraham Rasul, who served as the former Philippine ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
BUSINESS: Inflation could rise to 3.0% in Nov – BSP
Topping business, higher food and energy prices, along with a weaker peso, could push inflation up in November, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said on Friday. The central bank’s estimate of 2.2-3.0 percent for the month leans toward an increase from October’s 2.3 percent, but remains in line with the 2.0- to 4.0-percent target for the year. The Philippine Statistics Authority is scheduled to release November inflation data on Dec. 5.
SPORTS: NorthPort shoots for 2nd straight win
Over to sports, Northport shoots for its second straight win when it faces Terrafirma in the main game of their PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City. The Batang Pier had an explosive debut after overwhelming the NLEX Road Warriors 114-87 Thursday night. The wards of coach Bonnie Tan will take on the Dyip at 7:30 p.m. Terrafirma, on the other hand, hopes to finally see their two newly acquired assets — veterans Terrence Romeo and Vic Manuel — play against NorthPort. Romeo and Manuel were acquired by the team just last Monday after being traded from San Miguel in exchange for Juami Tiongson and Drei Cahilig.
