EAM Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Johannesburg, discussing India-Russia bilateral cooperation and recent developments in the Ukraine conflict.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Johannesburg on a two-day visit to South Africa to participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, on Thursday met and interacted with several world leaders, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

During their meeting, the two counterparts discussed the progress of the India-Russia bilateral cooperation.

The two also discussed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In an X post, following his meeting with Lavrov, Jaishankar wrote, “Glad to meet FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia this evening in Johannesburg.”

“Reviewed the continued progress of India-Russia bilateral cooperation. Discussed recent developments pertaining to the Ukraine conflict, including his Riyadh meeting,” he wrote.

“Agreed to remain in touch,” Jaishankar’s X post read.

The External Affairs Minister also shared some pictures of him with Lavrov.

Multiple videos on social media showed Jaishankar shaking hands with Lavrov.

One such video showed them both posing together and then settling down for talks with other leaders.

Other than Lavrov, Jaishankar also met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and conveyed the warm greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He also met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, and his counterparts from Singapore, Brazil and Ethiopia and discussed with them global developments and ways to enhance bilateral ties.

The External Affairs Minister also met Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on the margins of the meeting.
