MRT services fully resume on Circle Line after train fault during morning peak hour

SINGAPORE – Train services have fully resumed after a train fault between Paya Lebar and Buona Vista on the Circle Line (CCL) caused delays during the morning peak hour on May 20.

In a post on social media platform X at about 8.30am, SMRT advised passengers to add 30 minutes to their morning commute.

About 10 minutes later, SMRT said in an update that the train fault had been fixed and services were progressively resuming. Soon after, SMRT said train services had fully resumed and that free regular bus services were no longer available.

In its latest update, SMRT said the train fault had occurred between Botanic Gardens and Farrer Road stations on the CCL at around 8.15am, with services resuming progressively from around 8.44am.

“Our staff immediately responded to resolve the fault. There were station announcements to inform commuters to add 30 minutes to their travel time,” said SMRT, adding that staff were also on-site to assist.

Free bus services were available between Serangoon and Buona Vista stations at designated bus stops, SMRT added.

“We apologise for affecting your morning peak commute and appreciate your understanding,” the transport operator said.

When The Straits Times arrived at the CCL platforms at Serangoon station at 9.10am, trains heading towards Marina Bay were arriving frequently, and the crowds had cleared quickly.

Passengers transferring from the North East Line told ST that they were not affected by the delay.
