Ryan Thomas has been quizzed on his plan for more children with his fiancee Lucy Mecklenburgh, just as he was seen back on the cobbles for the first time in more than nine years.
The actor confirmed earlier this year that he’ll be making his way back to Coronation Street, almost a decade after he quit the ITV soap as Jason Grimshaw.
Jason arrived on-screen in 2000 and in his 16 years in Weatherfield, the character’s storylines mostly revolved around his failed relationships with various women, from Sarah Platt and Rosie Webster, to Becky McDonald and Eva Price.
Jason left Weatherfield in 2016 after being manipulated by his mother’s new boyfriend and later husband, Pat Phelan, but the door was also left open for a possible return.
And that time has come as he makes the trip back from Thailand to see his mum, Eileen Grimshaw, after actress Sue Cleaver asked her on-screen son to return as part of her exit storyline.
Speaking about the reason for his return, Ryan said: “It was a mix of nostalgia and gratitude for what the show has done for me. When they told me Eileen was leaving, it felt right to be a part of that storyline for her and revisit where it all started.”
And after a number of years away, returning to the famous street sparked nerves for the 40-year-old, who is now a father-of-three, sharing teenage daughter Scarlett with fellow Corrie star Tina O’Brien, and youngsters Roman and Lilah with Lucy.
Taking part in a new social media Q&A, Ryan was asked about his family life. One of his followers said: “Are you and Lucy going to have any more kids? You have a beautiful family.”
But Ryan said in a video response: “Are you and Lucy going to have any more kids? Erm… no [laughs]. No chance! I want my laugh back.” He added: “She’s gone to Portugal for four days and I’ve got them by myself, I don’t know what’s hit me!”
There was also talk about Corrie as Ryan was asked: “When will you be in Corrie??” Ryan responded: “I’m not sure, might be this week, but felt very nostalgic to be back..”
He made the comments alongside a video that he filmed, showing himself on the soap’s famous set. In the clip, Ryan’s heard saying: “Walking down memory lane…” He then said: “Look what I found,” showing the builders yard, before he revealed: “Jumped off there once!”
“Look, i’m on the cobbles, all these years later,” he went on to share as he filmed his surroundings. “There it is, Roy’s Rolls… Like a super fan,” Ryan laughed.
