Trump to reveal TikTok buyer ‘in about two weeks’

President Donald Trump revealed that the United States has found a TikTok buyer, which will be revealed soon.

In an interview with Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Trump mentioned as an aside while discussing broader trade deals that he has finally found a buyer for the controversial social media company. When asked who, Trump replied that he’d reveal the buyer “in about two weeks.”

“I think I’ll need … probably China’s approval, and I think President Xi will probably do it,” he said.

“Very, very wealthy people, it’s a group of very wealthy people,” Trump added before changing the subject.

He also touched on relations with China more broadly, providing a warm description of the country and its leadership.

“We’re getting along well with China. I think getting along well with China is a very good thing,” Trump said.

He then countered several attacks against Beijing from Bartiromo, who questioned why the U.S. would deal with what she described as a bad actor. He downplayed the smuggling in of deadly pathogens by two Chinese nationals.

“You don’t know where that came from, though. I mean, did that come from the country, or is it three wackos that happened to carry something?” Trump replied.

REPORTS ON CHINA’S VICTORY ARE GREATLY EXAGGERATED

Bartiromo then brought up allegations of Chinese hacking into the U.S. telecom systems, the stealing of intellectual property, and the country’s role in the fentanyl trade and COVID-19. Trump replied that the U.S. does much the same to China.

“You don’t think we do that to them?” he asked rhetorically. So we do a lot of things to them. That’s the way the world works. … It’s a nasty world.”
