McDonald’s, which has restaurants in Birmingham, is bringing a brand new twist to the iconic burger for the first time since it came to the UK.

McDonald’s is making a major change to its Filet-O-Fish for the first time in 50 years – and it’s dropping in just DAYS. McDonald’s, which has restaurants in Birmingham, is bringing a brand new twist to the iconic burger for the first time since it came to the UK.

From 11am on July 1, you’ll be able to get your hands on the Double Filet-o-Fish at any Maccies restaurant nationwide. The sandwich will comprise of two Pollock fish patties in crispy breadcrumbs, melted cheese and creamy tartare sauce in a steamed bun.

For one day only, it will be available for just £2 when you order from the McDonald’s app, which is less than half price. After that it will cost £5.29 individually or £7.39 as part of an Everyday Value Meal.

“Fond memories of enjoying these from when they used to be packaged in Blue and White Styrofoam boxes, and enjoying it with a McDonald’s hot chocolate,” one fan said in response to the announcement on Facebook.

A second said: “They reduced the size of the fillet so much that now you can experience what it was like to have a normal sized fillet.” A third typed: “Just had one in Thailand been doing them for a while. But costs about £3.50 here. It was delicious.”

A McDonald’s survey found a third of Brits pronounce the Filet-O-Fish incorrectly. Opting for Fil-LET instead of the correct pronunciation Fil-LAY.

According to McDonald’s the iconic fish sandwich dates back to 1962 in the USA, when Lou Groen, a Maccies Franchisee from Cincinnati noticed a decrease in sales on Fridays.

This was because the restaurant was located in a predominantly Roman Catholic neighbourhood and catholics abstain from eating meat on Fridays.

Lou convinced the chain to introduce a fish option for customers affected.
