Prime Minister Narendra Modi
arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th Brics Summit. He landed at Galeão International Airport, beginning a two-leg visit to the country at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
This is Modi’s fourth visit to Brazil. Besides taking part in the
Brics Summit in Rio, he will also visit the capital, Brasília.
On social media platform X, Modi posted: “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I will
participate in the Brics Summit and then head to its capital, Brasília, for a State visit at the invitation of President Lula. Looking forward to a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit.”
During his stay, he will hold bilateral talks with President Lula to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Brazil in areas like trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and cultural ties.
On the sidelines of the Brics Summit, Modi is also expected to meet several other world leaders.
The Brics group, which originally included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has expanded to add Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran, becoming a major alliance of emerging economies.
Before coming to Brazil, Prime Minister Modi visited Ghana from July 2-3, where he addressed Parliament at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama. On July 3-4, he visited Trinidad and Tobago, meeting President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Argentina was his next stop, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to that country in 57 years.
