Oasis will play the first of their homecoming shows in Manchester tonight. Noel and Liam Gallagher have set aside their differences for an eagerly anticipated worldwide reunion tour this year.
Oasis 25′ kicked off in style last week with two shows the Cardiff Principality Stadium. The tour continues today in their home city with the first of five shows in Heaton Park. The UK has been hit with glorious sunshine for the first show in Manchester on July 11. To mark the start of the tour last week, the BBC provided coverage of the build up to the show in Cardiff.
The special livestream started at 1pm on BBC iPlayer last Friday and was hosted by Jason Mohammad. The presenter confirmed the special show on social media.
He said: “The BBC is putting on a special livestream, Oasis: Countdown to the Comeback, building up to the highly anticipated gig. Hosted by Jason Mohammad and Tina Daheley, the show begins at 1pm on Friday and will be broadcast from a site overlooking the stadium.
“You won’t be able to watch the actual gig, but what you will get is a mix of live coverage, special guests, and on-the-ground reports from our team speaking to fans across the city. After the gig, there will also be instant reactions and live reviews as the excitement continues into the night.”
Jason was thrilled with how the coverage went as he reflected on the show after the concert. He said: “A huge moment in music history. So proud of Cardiff & everyone who made it happen. Biggest thanks to @liamgallagher @NoelGallagher @BoneheadsPage for making me feel 20 again in there tonight.
“Those @oasis songs will indeed live forever. Unbelievable gig.” The BBC have not aired a similar show ahead of the Heaton Park gigs today, as Jason directed fans to watch the Countdown to the Comeback highlights on iPLayer.
He said: “If you want some Oasis reunion telly and not got a ticket for HP. Here you go … *if you have got a ticket enjoy! It’s special.” The gig in Cardiff was the band’s first since Oasis split in 2009, when Noel left the band over a backstage fight with Liam at Rock en Seine festival in Paris.
In a message on the band’s website the same day, Noel said: “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.
“People will write and say what they like but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.
“Apologies to all the people who bought tickets to the shows in Paris Konstanz and Milan.” After the five shows in Manchester, Oasis will heading down to London for five more shows at Wembley Stadium.
The group will then travel north of the border for three nights at Murrayfield in Edinburgh before a trip across the Irish Sea for two dates at Croke Park in Dublin.
After taking the tour oversees to Canada, the United States and Mexico, the band will return for the UK’s final dates in Wembley on September 27 and 28.
They then travel to South Korea, Japan, Australia, Argentina, and Chile, before closing the tour with two dates in Brazil in November.
