A travel enthusiast has shared the ‘most surprising country’ they’ve visited, and it isn’t a typical destination like Greece, Portugal, or Thailand.

Jordynn, known for sharing her travel adventures on TikTok, was surprised by how underrated this country is, despite its stunning beaches, mountains, and memorable cities. She mentioned that this hidden gem is also perfect for budget travellers, offering remarkably ‘affordable food prices’.

“Most surprising country we’ve ever been to,” she said in a past TikTok (@wheretonexttt__), according to a Mirror report. “This isn’t the Philippines, this isn’t Switzerland, it’s not Greece, this isn’t Italy, not Thailand! And it’s not Portugal! This is Albania.”

Even though Jordynn spent just a week in Albania, she believed she could have happily stayed for a month due to the variety of experiences available in the country. She warmly recommends visiting Tirana, the capital city, which is famous for its extensive museums, historic architecture, and lively nightlife.

For beach lovers and seafood enthusiasts, Sarande, a coastal town, is a must-see destination. Just an hour’s drive from here will also bring you to Gjirokaster, a unique location recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jordynn continued: “This country is in between Greece and Montenegro and idk how more people don’t know about it?! It offers such a diverse experience between the insane mountains and hiking in the north…the crystal clear, calm sea and gorgeous beaches in the south… the rich culture/ history in the city…

“The cobblestone old towns & UNESCO world heritage sites… and don’t even get me started on the food!” Byrek is one of the most famous dishes in Albania and is frequently sold at street carts.

These may be a favourite for anyone who enjoys Cornish pasties, as they are typically pastries filled with melted cheese, meats, or vegetables. People with a sweet tooth might also appreciate the country’s famous Baklava – another delicious, nutty pastry usually drenched in honey.

Jordynn summarised: “Every place offers something different and I HIGHLY recommend every place! I stayed 2 weeks in Albania and could’ve easily stayed a whole month.”
