Call The Midwife bosses have shared an exciting announcement regarding the upcoming Christmas special.
Members of the cast and crew are currently filming the highly-anticipated episode and this time there’s a huge overseas twist which will showcase the drama like never before.
It has been confirmed that the show’s 14th Christmas special will feature the buzzing backdrop of Hong Kong.
Sharing various behind-the-scenes snaps of cast filming in China, the caption read: “Our team have been out and about in the bustling metropolis of Hong Kong filming all week – and they tell us it’s been pretty thrilling!
“Hong Kong weather is sub-tropical, which means that conditions can turn from very hot and humid to rain and thunder in a very short time! Luckily we were prepared for all eventualities – our cast even have their own period-appropriate umbrellas!.

“Another period-appropriate feature we’ve been using is the rickshaw – that old stalwart of asian transportation. They were ubiquitous in 1970s Hong Kong, so our characters have been using them to get around. Mind you, I’m not sure Shelagh looks entirely comfortable with it…. “Call the Midwife will return with a new Christmas Special, and Series 15 in 2026.”
Fans were delighted to see actress Fenella Woolgar back on set reprising her role as Sister Hilda, who first graced our screens in the 2018 Christmas special.
One social media user wrote: “GREAT to have Sister Hilda back. I absolutely LOVE Mrs Buckle’s dress And LOOK at the top stitching of Nurse Crane‘s suit. The deliciousness. Dr Turner, looking very handsome and dapper, as always And I LOVE Fred‘s outfit.
“You know, I’ve been watching Call the Midwife since season 4 and I have never noticed until right now: Shelagh reminds me of my teacher in secondary school. I didn’t make the connection until I saw her picture just now.”
Another added: “Love, love, love this show wonderful to see Sister Hilda back.” A third agreed: “So excited Sister Hilda is back.”
Following her service in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the war and subsequent nursing career, the character arrived at Nonnatus House armed with a wealth of experience.
Sister Hilda exited Call the Midwife in season 11 following the train crash incident when she was dispatched to the Mother House.
During her stay there, Mother Mildred concluded that Nonnatus House could function perfectly well without her, leading Sister Hilda to continue her midwifery work in Chichester.
However, she is now back but fans will have to wait and see what’s in store for the character.
