Former Coronation Street star Kimberly Hart-Simpson has said she has ‘officially’ received a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) which she says has left her ‘untangling’ her 38 years of life.
The actress, who played Nicky Wheatley in the ITV soap during numerous stints between 2020 and 2024, took to social media to share the news, saying she was actually given the diagnosis eight months ago.
Sharing a picture of herself in sunnier and more picturesque climes, she wrote on Instagram: “I HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD!!!
“It’s took me 8 months to actually write this (when I got the diagnosis) because for a bit I just wanted to take it all in and untangle 38 years worth of WTF. Then I was scared to say it on the internet because sometimes the internet can be ‘very very harsh’.”
She went on to share: “I come from a generation where this wasn’t really an open conversation or a comfortable label. So when i found out I did the classic reaction of run a marathon / go to Thailand on your own / start a million new side projects. I would say running was the most exposing time for me – but also gave me the space to really understand myself.“A lot of the time it shows up in really positive ways, I work quickly with the things I am obsessed about, I am impulsive (but then will ask everyone I know about what they think I should do), I have to have several plates spinning at once and so hungry to have a full life.
“But I am absolutely knackered because I never sleep through, I have a million things half done and I worry so much about ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING.
“These aren’t all of my traits, just some erm… highlights. I am actually happy I have received the diagnosis I did, it’s helpful for me. I am not sure what I will do with the knowledge just yet… I mean I haven’t just developed it, I have clearly had it all my life, but I have only just admitted it, so its going to be a process.”
Kimberly concluded: “Anyways, there’s the post… which I will by the way, re-read 50 times, worry that I may have said something to offend someone (even though this is about me), then wish I never posted it and say I am going to move abroad to start over. Shoutout to humour to say hard things.“If you suspect that you are also this way inclined, I would recommend you find out too, the wait time on NHS in my area was 18mnths, so I ended up going @careadhd who are part of ‘the right to choose’ (if you don’t know what this is – in short its a care Adhd provider who are NHS funded – your GP just needs to refer you via e-RS) all of their info is on careadhd.co.uk – they were absolutely amazing with me at a time I was pretty vulnerable.
“This is not an ad, but I am highly recommending them! #adhd #adhdinwomen.”
And she was quickly flooded with messages of support. @sajona2024 said: “Welcome to the adhd club, it’s a lot better when you know and can go ‘Ah! That’s why I did so and so back then…'” @gouldberg85 wrote: “Brave of you to post this, well done.”
@ste.poole1 replied: “You are so inspirational KHS . Good to share . Hope you feel better for it and don’t get any stupid comments . Keep smiling” _scotty_thomas added: “Lots of love my darling. You’re an incredible human being!”
