‘We could feel the heat from our house’: Car catches fire in Bidadari area

SINGAPORE – A car caught fire near Woodleigh Mall on Aug 10, but no injuries were reported.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire in Bidadari Park Drive at 12.40pm. Images taken from social media show that it occurred next to a bus stop.

A compressed air foam jet used to extinguish the fire, said the SCDF, adding that there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A resident whose home faces the main road where the fire occurred told The Straits Times: “We could feel the heat from our house. Can’t imagine what our first responders feel.”

A Telegram group for residents living in the Woodleigh Hillside estate had messages from residents complaining of a strong smell of gas in the air after the incident.

Others reported seeing thick, dark smoke in the area and advised one another to wear masks when heading out.

Video footage shared on Telegram shows a man standing near a red car as smoke emerges from under its front bonnet. Other videos show bright orange flames billowing from the car as SCDF officers approach it.

In a picture of the aftermath, the shell of the car appears entirely white, with its doors held shut with yellow tape.

This is the third report of a car being on fire in the past week. No injuries were reported in both prior incidents.
