Young Limerick pianist takes first place in international competition

A YOUNG Limerick pianist has taken home the top prize in his category at an international piano competition.

Ten-year-old Abhishek Jino from Newcastle West has won first prize in category C at the 2025 Singapore International Piano Competition.

A student of Stuart O’Sullivan at the Limerick School of Music, Abhishek impressed the international jury with his performances of Haydn’s Sonata and Chopin’s Étude in A minor, Op 10 No 2 in the opening round.

He went on to deliver a “dazzling” rendition of a Scarlatti Sonata and Chopin’s Waterfall Étude, Op 10 No 1 in the final round, clinching the coveted title.

Abhishek is no stranger to success, having already won several top prizes at feis, féile, and other national competitions across Ireland.
