According to the South China Morning Post, the married man was involved in an affair and stayed at a hotel with his girlfriend, only for a terrifying incident to unfold that left the hotel staff aghast. His family was unaware of his whereabouts until the shocking truth came to light, affecting both his loved ones and his girlfriend. This unusual and heartbreaking case highlights the risks of hidden or secretive relationships and the unforeseen repercussions they can bring.

The Tragic Incident

Media reports reveal that the man rekindled a relationship with a former colleague from a factory where they worked in the 1980s. They reconnected at a party in 2023 and began meeting frequently.

On July 24, the pair checked into a hotel where the girlfriend had arrived earlier. They spent the night together, but when the woman awoke, her partner laid lifeless beside her.

How The Case Reached Court

After initially leaving the room, the woman returned to find the door locked and called for assistance from hotel staff. After her attempts to rouse the man failed, and emergency services were called, who confirmed his death.

Upon learning the circumstances, the man’s family filed a court case.

Court Orders Compensation From The Girlfriend

The court initially ordered compensation of approximately $77,000 (around Rs 67 lakh) from the girlfriend. However, this amount was later reduced to $8,600 (approximately Rs 7.5 lakh).

The court determined that the man’s death was primarily due to his own health issues and held him responsible. Nonetheless, it ruled that the girlfriend might have saved him had she returned sooner. Due to her immoral conduct, the court ordered her to pay the reduced compensation.
