Chinese star Yu Menglong’s mother reveals actor’s cause of death at 37, urges fans to stop rumours and respect family grief
Chinese actor and singer Yu Menglong, beloved by millions of drama fans, tragically died in the early hours of September 11 after falling from a building in Beijing. He was just 37.
According to reports, Yu had dinner with several acquaintances at a friend’s house the night before. After retreating to a bedroom and locking the door, he was later discovered downstairs around 6 AM, after friends noticed his absence.

Police rule out foul play
Yu Menglong reportedly fell from Building 18 of the Sunshine Upper East Residential Complex in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, where he lived. Images circulating online show that the window safety net at the apartment had come loose.

An employee of the Sunshine Upper East Property Management Company confirmed that someone had fallen from the building, “but they were not sure whether it was a celebrity,” X (formerly known as Twitter) user @moon_ki95 posted online.

Online rumours linked Yu’s death to several of his close friends. Singer-actor Gao Taiyu, in particular, found himself targeted by speculation. He firmly denied being present at the scene and vowed legal action against those spreading malicious claims.
Authorities quickly launched an investigation but concluded there was no evidence of foul play. His agency confirmed the findings in a statement: “Police investigations found no evidence of foul play.”

A mother’s heartbreak
Days later, on September 16, Yu Menglong’s mother shared a devastating message through Yu Menglong Studio’s official social media. She confirmed her son “passed away after falling from a building while under the influence of alcohol.”
She described the loss as unbearable for the family and urged the public not to speculate further: “The police have already investigated the situation, completed all procedures, and informed us of the results. I hope everyone will view this rationally and stop making assumptions.”
Yu Menglong’s mother further added, “I want to return to a peaceful life as soon as possible, carrying the memory of my son in my heart. I believe that is what he would have wanted.”
