F4 singer Ken Chu weeps during solo concert in China

Taiwanese singer-actor Ken Chu wept during his solo concert in China on Nov 15, reportedly due to his alleged exclusion from Taiwanese boy band F4’s upcoming concert tour.

The 46-year-old held the Yangjiang leg of his The Starting Point Of The Breaking Point tour in Guangdong province on Nov 15, in which he performed songs like F4’s Meteor Rain (2001) and At The First Place (2001).

In a video which went viral on Chinese social media, Chu was covering veteran Taiwanese singer Chyi Chin’s hit song Somewhere Winter (1987) when he choked up midway. He reached for a towel during the interlude to wipe his face, and his eyes were red after he used the towel.

“Don’t cry,” some fans were heard saying.

After the show, Chu posted several photos of his concert on social media, with the caption: “An unforgettable night.”

This was his first public performance since Taiwanese media outlet Mirror Daily broke the news on Nov 9 that he would not participate in F4’s upcoming tour.

Chu was a member of F4, which made their debut in 2001 following the Taiwanese idol drama Meteor Garden (2001).

The band, which also consisted of Jerry Yan, 48, Vic Chou, 44, and Van Ness Wu, 47, split in 2009. However, they reunited for a surprise performance at Taiwanese pop-rock band Mayday’s concert at the Taipei Dome in July.

Mirror Daily said Mayday’s lead singer Ashin was the main driving force behind F4’s reunion, with Mayday’s record label B’in Music planning a new album and concert tour for F4.

However, Chu disclosed details which have not been finalised during his live streams, affecting F4’s comeback plans.

B’in Music has since made the decision to drop Chu from future plans in order to smoothly promote the comeback of the band.

Mirror Daily said F3’s concert tour is scheduled to kick off in December, with the first stop being a three-show run in Shanghai.
