Lalu Yadav family meltdown deepens as three more daughters leave Patna home after Rohini Acarya’s exit

A day after Rohini Acharya’s dramatic public outburst and her declaration that she was severing ties with the family, tensions inside the Lalu Prasad Yadav household escalated sharply on Sunday. Three more daughters of the RJD chief, Rajlakshmi, Ragini and Chanda, left the family’s Patna residence with their children and headed to Delhi, signalling a widening rift within one of Bihar’s most influential political dynasties.

Their departure comes at a moment when the RJD is already battling political and emotional churn after its crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly polls, where its tally plunged from 75 seats to about 25.

Rohini’s charges set off internal tremors

The crisis erupted when Rohini Acharya, Lalu’s Singapore-based daughter and a doctor, announced she was quitting politics and breaking away from the family. In a series of posts, she alleged she was abused and even threatened with a slipper during a confrontation involving Tejashwi Yadav’s close aides Sanjay Yadav and Rameez.

She wrote that she was “torn away from her family”, left her parents “crying”, and was accused of having “taken crores” after donating a kidney to her father — a claim she called deeply hurtful. “This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez asked me to do, and I am taking all the blame,” she added. Neither aide has responded so far.

Rohini, who was long seen as an emotional anchor for the family, had also fought the Saran Lok Sabha seat last year but lost.

Three sisters exit 10 Circular Road
Amid the turmoil, Rajlakshmi, Ragini and Chanda quietly left the Patna home on Monday morning. Their exit leaves only Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi and Misa Bharti at the once-bustling political address. Tejashwi Yadav, under fire over his leadership and choice of advisers, has stayed largely out of sight.

Tej Pratap’s fury adds another layer

The allegations triggered an emotional eruption from Tej Pratap Yadav, who was expelled from the party and the family earlier this year. In a message posted via the Janshakti Janata Dal’s social media account, he said the episode had “shaken [his] heart to the core” and called his sister’s humiliation “unbearable under any circumstances”.

He appealed directly to Lalu Prasad, saying, “Father, give me a signal just one nod, and the people of Bihar will bury these Jaichands.” Tej Pratap claimed “a few faces” were distorting Tejashwi’s judgment and said the fight was now about “the dignity of a daughter and the self-respect of Bihar”.

His expulsion earlier this year, followed by the launch of his JJD party and his defeat in Mahua, has already strained family ties. With Rohini’s exit and now three sisters leaving the Patna residence, the internal fractures appear deeper than ever.

The turmoil comes after the RJD’s worst-ever performance, with the entire Mahagathbandhan securing only around 35 seats. Many within the party have blamed Tejashwi’s strategy and the influence of his aides, intensifying scrutiny and internal dissent.
