Singapore envoy attends staff wedding on video call after IndiGo cancels his flight

A day after publicly sharing his ordeal of being stranded amid IndiGo’s ongoing aviation meltdown and missing a staff member’s wedding, Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, posted a wholesome follow-up showing him attending the wedding on video call.

Despite missing his team member’s wedding because his Deoghar-bound IndiGo flight was abruptly cancelled, Wong made sure he was able to virtually attend the wedding, and have his blessings still reach the bride and groom.

In a new post shared by the official Singapore in India account on X, the High Commissioner sent warm wishes and also posted a series of cheerful photographs from the ceremony.

“Distance may divide us #IndiGoChaos, but Spirit #shaadi will unite us,” he wrote as the caption, with Wong congratulating the newlyweds and offering blessings for a happy marriage. The affectionate “Beta, congratulations” added an Indian touch, something several users praised as a sign of how deeply the diplomat had embraced local culture.

The accompanying images featured him attending the wedding on a video call, along with pictures of the couple, guests, and a vibrant wedding backdrop. A picture of the newlywed couple along with some guests was also added to the post.

On Friday, he revealed that he had “joined the tens of thousands of passengers stranded by #IndiGo,” sharing screenshots of the cancellation alert he received and chaotic visuals from the venue already filling up without him.

Meanwhile, IndiGo’s operational crisis spilled into the fifth consecutive day. With over 1000 cancellations on Friday, the disruption left passengers across major metros missing milestone events, including weddings, conferences, even medical appointments.

The airline had attributed the gridlock to a severe pilot shortage amplified by winter scheduling pressures. Delhi Airport has also issued an advisory stating that all flight operations are gradually returning to normal and urged passengers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport.

But today’s update from Wong shifted the conversation from anger to warmth, and social media users called it “the most wholesome diplomatic moment of the week.”

“Wong ji silently winning hearts like a true diplomat,” a user commented.

Another user quipped, “They got the best blessings from you sir, and they are very lucky that they have a boss like you.”

Several users also applauded his emotional investment in his staff’s personal milestones – a gesture he also demonstrated last month when he travelled to Bulandshahr to attend another team member’s wedding.
