Social Media is conquering the world, with apps making life easier for everyone. From social networking apps to delivery sites, there are so many apps available on the Play Store. You must not be aware that there is a myriad of country-wise social networking sites. A viral post recently listed some of these popular apps invented across the world.
From the United States, giving rise to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube, to China developing TikTok, WeChat and CapCut, the post highlighted how technology has shaped nations into global digital leaders.
Which Country Invented What?
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Pinterest, etc. originated from the United States. Sweden, on the other hand, invented Spotify, Minecraft and Candy Crush and China invented TikTok, Temu, Capcut, WeChat, QQ, QZone, Sina Weibo, Baidu Tieba, etc.
Remember the Red Birds game you played during your childhood? Finland was the one that invented Angry Birds. They have also founded Clash Of Clans and Hay Day.
The United Kingdom invented Shazam, Deliveroo and Revolut, while Japan was the one who founded Line, Rakuten and Gotcha Life. Kakao Talk, Naver and Kakao Games originated from South Korea. Germany invented Soundcloud, Flixbus and Lensa.
Telegram, Yandex and Primsa are a few apps that have their origin in Russia. Blablacar, Bizer and Vinted is developed in France. Australia invented Canva, Atlassian and Afterpay. Canada was the one who developed the shopping app Shopify, Wattpad and Kick. Brazil invented iFood, New Bank and 99. Mexico was behind apps like Bitso and quesque. The Netherlands invented Booking.com, we transfer and picnic.
Switzerland invented proton, VPN, doodle and numbers. Kahoot, Opera Browser and the title were invented by Norway.
What Did India Invent?
However, as the post gained traction, many users began mentioning what India invented. The comment sections were soon flooded with responses showcasing India’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem and its contribution to the global app economy.
Some mentioned that the country has developed apps like Paytm and PhonePe, transforming digital payments and making cashless transactions accessible to millions. RuPay, India’s indigenous card network, were also one of the apps that India invented as a strong alternative to global payment systems.
In the e-commerce and startup space, users mentioned platforms like Flipkart and Meesho. Ludo King, a simple yet massively popular mobile game, was another app that gained international recognition, especially during the pandemic.
Some also mentioned apps such as AstroTalk, catering to astrology-based consultations, and Ullu, known for its digital streaming content, and traditional teleshopping brands like Naaptol.
