Bristol City manager Gerhard Struber says it’s important that any move for Yu Hirakawa is the right one, as the Japan international closes in on a move to Hull City.

It’s understood that an agreement was reached between the two clubs earlier this week, with an agreement that the winger would be in the squad for the Robins at Oxford United on Saturday, before moving to the East Riding.

Hirakawa came off the bench in the second half at the Kassam Stadium, and appearing in cameo displays has been the theme of things for the 25-year-old this season, with just three starts, and that’s why he’s keen to move on.

The Tigers are desperate to bolster their ranks, having been hit by a flurry of injuries, with Mo Belloumi set to miss much of the remaining weeks of the season, and Liam Millar still finding his rhythm after making his return from an ACL injury.

City expect the deal to be completed in the next 24 hours, with the versatile wide man expected to undergo a medical today (Sunday) ahead of completing his move, and he could be in the squad at Deepdale on Tuesday evening.

“I think also here, we want to give Yu the possibility maybe for a loan, we will see,” the Austrian told Bristol Live. “It could be also [that] the decision [is] coming in the next few days in this way, when we have the right one for him [so] that he can get game time.

“I think this is, for him, the most important thing, and then we could bring him back in the summer with a different development. This is an interesting club (City). For me, it is important that he has the chance for game time and not that he is in the end in a club for a loan deal without game time.

“Then, it’s a lose-lose. We need, of course, a club that has an eye on him and a trust in him for game time, and not that he is maybe a replacement for someone.”
