Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been cancelled this evening, Tuesday 31 March, due to the football.
Typically, Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm in a ‘soaps power hour’. However, this week, the hit ITV soaps have undergone a huge schedule shake-up due to the football.
This week, instead of Coronation Street and Emmerdale airing on Tuesday 31 March, they have been replaced by the England v Japan friendly match at Wembley Stadium with kick-off at 7:45pm.
This also means there will be no chance to watch the soaps earlier on ITV X as typically that evening’s broadcast is uploaded to the streamer from 7am.
To make up for the missing episode this evening, Coronation Street will air on Sunday 5 April, as well as its usual schedule, giving fans six episodes to watch throughout the week of Sunday 5 April to Friday 10 April.
Emmerdale will also air its missing episode on Sunday 5 April, as well as its usual schedule, giving fans six episodes to watch throughout the week of Sunday 5 April to Friday 10 April.
Taking to social media, disgruntled soap fans have already shared their thoughts and disappointment over the huge soaps schedule shake-up and missing out on their Tuesday fix.
One person said: “Reminder: There is NO #Emmerdale & #Corrie tomorrow night once again due to the football. It’ll be back on Wednesday as usual” to which a different account replied: “It’s a friendly ffs . Put it on itv2.”
Another soaps fan wrote: “Why are the soaps always put off because of stupid football, even the friendlys #Emmerdale” while another viewer added: “Football on Tuesday so no #Emmerdale or #Corrie.” Elsewhere, another account simply wrote: “Football again ????!!!!”
It comes as the soaps underwent another schedule shake-up on Friday 27 March due to the football. The soaps were replaced by the England v Uruguay match.
However, the ITV soaps aired their missing episodes on Sunday 29 March albeit at the earlier time of 7pm and 7:30pm.
Yet fans quite enjoyed the fact they could get their soap fix on a Sunday night. Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “What a treat watching Emmerdale and Corrie on a Sunday night!. Both episodes were fantastic! Tates vs Dingles just like old times… the Theo and Todd realisation hitting home….finally! well done to all! #corrie #emmerdale.”
A different viewer put: “There’s something so right about Sunday night soaps. Bring them back permanently, ITV! #Corrie #Emmerdale” while another fan added: “I’m very much in favour of #Corrie on a Sunday night!! Just like the good old days!”
