The week in photos: April 18-24, 2026

MANILA, Philippines – It was a double whammy for the Dutertes on April 22.

At the House of Representatives, the third impeachment hearing against Vice President Sara Duterte put long-circulating claims of vast wealth under scrutiny. Lawmakers examined billions of pesos in bank transactions — figures that appeared to far exceed her SALN declarations.

Over at The Hague, Netherlands, the International Criminal Court (ICC) Appeals Chamber denied former president Rodrigo Duterte’s appeal to dismiss the crimes against humanity case against him on the basis of jurisdiction.

On April 23, the ICC’s pre-trial chamber confirmed all the charges against Duterte. Charges against the former strongman include three counts of crimes against humanity of murder, covering 49 incidents of killings and 78 victims.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he would indefinitely extend the ceasefire with Iran to allow for further peace talks, although it was not clear on April 22 if Iran or Israel, the US ally in the two-month war, would agree.

Trump said in a statement on social media that the US had agreed to a request by Pakistani mediators “to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal…and discussions are concluded, one way or the other.”
