Nepal kicked off their Asian Games Men’s Cricket Qualifier 2026 campaign in emphatic fashion with a crushing 221-run victory over China at the Singapore National Cricket Ground on Sunday. The Group A encounter turned into a one-sided affair as Nepal’s batters dominated from the outset before their bowlers completed the job with a clinical performance.

While Nepal’s record-breaking total and comprehensive victory grabbed headlines, one particular moment during the innings stood out above everything else. Opener Kushal Bhurtel produced a spectacular exhibition of clean hitting that instantly became one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament.

Kushal Bhurtel smashes 6 sixes in an over against China

Bhurtel etched his name into the record books during the ninth over of Nepal’s innings when he took apart Chinese left-arm spinner Chen Zhuo Yue. The right-handed batter launched all six legal deliveries of the over over the boundary ropes, becoming only the sixth player in T20I history to smash six sixes in a single over. The carnage began from the very first delivery as Bhurtel cleared the ropes with ease before repeating the feat on each of the next five balls. The Chinese spinner had no answer as the Nepal opener showcased a stunning combination of timing, power and confidence.

The remarkable over sent the crowd into a frenzy and quickly went viral across social media platforms. With every successive maximum, anticipation grew around the ground before Bhurtel completed the historic achievement by dispatching the sixth and final ball of the over for another six. The over formed a major part of Bhurtel’s sensational innings as he eventually smashed 129 runs from just 43 deliveries. His breathtaking knock featured 16 sixes and helped Nepal establish complete control of the contest.

Nepal pile up 313 before bowling out China for 92

After being asked to bat first, Nepal produced one of the most destructive batting displays seen in international T20 cricket. Bhurtel led the charge with his explosive century while Kushal Malla provided excellent support with an unbeaten 85 from 47 deliveries. The duo added a massive 175-run partnership that completely deflated the Chinese bowling attack. Nepal captain Rohit Paudel then added further damage during the closing stages, blasting an unbeaten 69 off just 21 balls to propel his side to a staggering 313/2 from their 20 overs.

Facing an almost impossible target of 314, China never managed to recover after losing early wickets. Nepal’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the chase, with Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane striking regularly. Kushal completed a memorable all-round performance by claiming remarkable figures of 3/0 in just 1.2 overs as China’s innings folded for 92 in 19.2 overs. The comprehensive 221-run victory handed Nepal the perfect start to their Asian Games Qualifier campaign and underlined their credentials as one of the strongest teams in the competition.
