According to a monthly report published by messaging platform WhatsApp, WhatsApp banned 14.26 lakh Indian accounts in February based on complaints received from users through the complaints channel and through its own mechanism to prevent and detect breaches.

Between February 1 and February 28, 335 complaints were received and “action” was taken on 21 accounts. Of the total reports received, 194 related to ban requests, while others related to account support, product support and security.

The report states: “We respond to all complaints received, except in cases where a complaint is considered a duplicate of a previous ticket. An account will be ‘activated’ when an account is banned Or, as a result of the complaint, an already banned account has been restored.’

According to the report, 14.26 lakh Indian accounts were banned by WhatsApp in February. An Indian account is identified by +91 phone number.

“This user safety report details user complaints received and related actions taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform. As per the new monthly report, WhatsApp has banned more than 14 lakh accounts.

The spokesperson said WhatsApp has continuously invested in artificial intelligence and other latest technology, data scientists and experts and processes over the years to keep users safe on the platform.
