HYDERABAD: Even two months after the 17-year-old girl was gang raped in an Innova at Jubilee Hills by five youngsters, including four minors, the videos of the incident are still active on social media.
The issue came to light after family members approached the women safety wing officials a few days ago with details of photos and video links. The city police are now planning to write to the Instagram to take them down and also intend to initiate criminal proceedings against the uploaders.
Family members of the survivor noticed two videos and photos of her along with the minor accused. In one photo the injury marks on the neck of the girl were visible with an objectionable caption. In the second photo and the two videos the minors were seen outraging the modesty of the minor girl. In one of the videos, the faces of the girl and the three minor accused were visible.
The videos and the photos were uploaded from the handle – Th**************ad – between June 3 and 4. In one of the videos, the uploader had added a cheeky voice over and there were also comments on the girl by several others. More than 2,000 people liked the video where the victim’s face was visible.
Women safety wing officials confirmed that they have asked the city police to write to Instagram to take down the videos and photos.
We will be seeking cyber crime police help to write to Instagram and take down the videos and photos of the minor gang rape survivor. The details of the Instagram account will also be sought,” said a cop from Jubilee Hills police station who is part of the investigation.
Cyber crime police have already registered four cases against Facebook and Instagram account holders who had earlier uploaded the photos and videos.
“We have mostly registered suo motu cases under IPC and JJ Act. All the links related to our cases have been taken down. We have identified the accused in one case and issued a notice to him. The other accused are yet to be identified,” cyber crime ACP KVM Prasad said.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court’s directives on cases related to sexual assault)
