IT was a night of nostalgia for long-time fans of megastar Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion whose “Dear Heart” reunion concert at the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday night rekindled the “magic” that once made them the iconic couple of the 80s on and off screen.
“It was such a beautiful night, thank you for everyone who worked so hard behind it to make this magic happen,” wrote fan page Solid ShaGab. “It was truly a perfect night, with nostalgic feels for every fan who attended the #DearHeartConcert! Seeing the iconic pairing of Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion on stage gives us more reason to love them both.”
Organizers did not livestream the event to be fair, they said, to those who were on site. Instead a page was made that documented the event, using photos from MoA and other fan pages.
“History talaga ito, binibigyan nyo po ng marka yung date na Oct. 27!” (This is history, you gave a mark to the date, Oct. 27!) commented @renmadridgazon17 on Sharon’s Instagram.
“Puyat umuwi pa kaming Quezon, pero umuwi kaming happy! Love the concert, sobrang ganda,” (We already were tired heading home to Quezon but we went home happy. Love the concert, it’s so beautiful.) commented @nica_naca on Instagram.
Fans in the United States, Canada, and even Ireland clamored for similar concerts.
The Dear Heart concert was the first for the former couple who were married in 1984. It was the title of their first movie that was shown in July 1981. They were separated in 1987 and had their marriage annulled in 1993.
It was also a reunion not only for Cuneta and Concepcion but with their daughter, actress KC Concepcion who joined them on stage.
Among the songs performed were “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko”, “Nandito Ako” (alongside Ogie and Regine Velasquez Alcasid), and “Dahil May Isang Ikaw,” alongside KC.
“Thank you to all those who came to see us at the MoA Arena tonight!” Sharon posted on Instagram, with a photo accompanying her and Concepcion. “We are so loved by you! We love you! God bless us all.”
Cuneta said that she and Concepcion have the “license to fall in love again.”
Also spotted at the MoA were Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Cavite 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla.
“Date night with Papa Bong. A night reminiscing the years of Sharon and Gabby, a beautiful love story and concert rolled into one. Tawa, iyak, kanta, sayaw—it was indeed a treat seeing you both on stage performing especially with KC,” wrote Mercado-Revilla on her social media platforms.
Sharon also revealed that her co-stars from the former long-running ABS-CBN teleserye “Ang Probinsyano” were also present, including lead actor Coco Martin, Lorna Tolentino, Shaina Magdayao, Miles Ocampo, and Cherry Pie Picache.
Singer-actress Vina Morales told Sharon that her heart was so “kilig” (fluttered) despite not being able to make it to the concert, as she had commitments in the US for the musical “Here Lies Love.” Morales, a self-confessed fan of the megastar, is Sharon Magdayao in real life.
Husband and former senator Francis Pangilinan, was also not at the concert, with Cuneta saying it was a “family decision.”
Cuneta said the concert was sold out, sharing a photo from the MoA Arena social media handles with a full arena.
