According to a tender project from China Mobile, the telecom operator plans to build two new data centers in Hohhot and Harbin, respectively, covering a total area of 185 hectares.

This represents China Mobile’s two new major construction projects, following its southern base and international information port construction commencement in Beijing.

According to the files, the new data center in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, has a total area of about 99.1 hectares and the total construction area will reach 720,000 square meters, including the first-phase construction area of 169,000 square meters. The new data center in Harbin, Heilongjiang, has a total area of about 86.27 hectares and the total construction area will reach 663,000 square meters, including the first-phase construction area of 207,000 square meters.

In China Mobile’s past, the company did not pay much attention to investment in fixed assets; but during recent years, it started the construction of these types of large parks. However, these parks are purely for manufacturing, and no living areas for employees are included.

Prior to this, China Mobile initially completed the construction of its southern base. With a total area of 490,000 square meters, the base is not only used by China Mobile, but also attracts lots of its cooperating partners. In addition, China Mobile’s international information port in Beijing is undergoing construction. This information port is also known as its northern base and is an important part for the company’s nationwide operation supporting system.
