Firoz Madhani, 67, posted four tweets related to the conflict in Kashmir in September 2019.
One tweet appears to be asking Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to attack India and stating “we are ready to kill and die”.
A second online message added “we will cross the border and bleed them” and all tweets are said to refer to “Jihad”.
Madhani was stopped and her phone confiscated at Edinburgh Airport on 27 November 2019 after police were alerted to a terror-related tweet.
Madhani pleaded guilty to charges of encouraging terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2006 S1(2) at Edinburgh Sheriff’s Court in September and he returned to the docks to serve his sentence yesterday. (TUESDAY)
Sheriff Daniel Kelly placed the OAP, from the capital Dalry, on an eight-month freedom restriction order and a surveillance order for the next 12 months.
Jennifer Harrower, fiscal procurator for specialist case work, said: “It is unacceptable to send a message that can encourage others to commit acts of terrorism, no matter your politics or beliefs.
“COPFS has a duty to keep the Scottish people safe from harm and is committed to working with other agencies to ensure those who commit offenses under the terrorism laws are brought to justice.”
Madhani pleaded guilty to publishing statements on Twitter glorifying terrorist acts, encouraging acts of violence, inciting violence by and against the government, directing impulses to encourage instruction of terrorist acts and reckless in his behavior at his home address on September 21, 2019.
