A woman managed to bag a Harrods Too Good To Go package for just £8, and one item in particular caught her eye.

Too Good To Go is an innovative mobile app that enables customers to purchase unsold food from local eateries and shops at a reduced price, with the aim of helping businesses cut down on food waste. The catch is that customers don’t know exactly what they’ll get until they pick up their bag at the end of the day.

Laura Khoshaba took to TikTok to share a video of herself unpacking her Too Good To Go bag from Harrods, which was valued at £24 but she snagged it for a mere £8. Her haul included three slices of pistachio cake, a plain scone, and a full loaf of Japanese milk bread.

In her TikTok post, Laura said: “Okay, so we managed to get one of the Too Good To Go bags from Harrods so let’s see what we got.” She first pulled out the generous slices of pistachio cake, complete with pistachio sponge, pistachio buttercream, and pistachio praline.

The luxury London department store offers this cake in three sizes – four inches, six inches, and nine inches. According to the Harrods website, the four-inch cake costs £24 and contains four slices, the six-inch version is priced at £45 and has six slices, while the largest size, the nine-inch cake, comes with a hefty price tag of £80 and contains 12 slices.

Clearly delighted with her haul so far, Laura commented: “That’s nice.” She then proceeded to continue exploring the contents of her Too Good To Go bag.

Discovering another bakery treat, she realised it was a plain scone after reading the label. With growing excitement, she pulled out her most anticipated item, declaring, “this seems to be a big loaf of bread in here as well.”

Laura’s enthusiasm couldn’t be contained as she added: “I wanted to try this. It’s the Japanese milk bread. I really wanted to try this.”

Her delight was palpable when she saw it was an entire “whole loaf in there.” Japanese milk bread (Hokkaido) is a beautifully light and fluffy bread, characterised by its soft white texture.

Made using tangzhong, a gelatinous paste created by cooking flour with liquid, this bread is celebrated for its subtly sweet milky taste. It graces the shelves of many Asian bakeries, especially those in Japan.

The TikTok video posted by Laura has racked up 131,500 views, receiving 3,908 likes and generating 81 comments thus far. The famous Japanese milk bread seems to have captured the hearts of fellow food enthusiasts in the comment section, eliciting reactions such as “that milk bread makes the loveliest sandwiches”, “milk bread is fantastic”, “milk loaf is lovely” and requests like “you need to do a video on the milk bread, looks so good!”

Other TikTok users were quick to express their amazement at what great value the Too Good To Go bag represented. One impressed person observed: “Wow the 3 slices of cake alone more than covered your £8.”

Another remarked on the bargain: “Wow that’s well worth the money.” An additional TikTok user exclaimed: “Absolute bargain!” However, it’s key to note that the contents of Too Good To Go bags are unpredictable, depending on what remains unsold at the end of each day.
