BBC Race Across the World came to an end on Wednesday. After racing almost 13,000km over seven weeks through China, Nepal and India, viewers saw mum and son team Caroline and Tom claim the £20,000 prize.

The popular series sees teams of two travel across the globe using any means of transport other than airplanes and without the use of smartphones or bank cards. Four teams embarked on their final leg of the journey on Wednesday (June 11).

Brain and Melvyn, Elizabeth and Letitia, Caroline and Tom and Fin and Sioned made up this year’s teams of finalists. They began their route at the Great Wall of China and successfully navigated themselves to the southernmost tip of India in Kanniyakumari.

After 51 days of travelling, 60-year-old Caroline and her 21-year-old son Tom triumphed on the BBC show as they were the first team to make it to the end point in the show’s closest ever finish.
