Eggs feature prominently in many diets, especially the keto diet, with its preference for a high-protein and low-carb balance. Keto and paleo enthusiasts often find themselves crafting innovative egg-based alternatives to bread and carbs, though the variations can become repetitive.

If you’re tired of the usual salt and pepper on your boiled eggs, there’s a zesty twist worth trying.

TikTok influencer Caitlin Molyneux has termed this recipe “lazy devilled eggs” and explains that perfecting it begins with boiling eggs for around eight minutes until both the white and yolk firm up.

In a video she shared on her TikTok account, Caitlin suggests using mayonnaise, specifically Kewpie mayonnaise from Japan, as the main condiment for dressed boiled eggs.

Unlike other mayonnaise brands you might typically reach for, like Heinz or Hellman’s, Kewpie mayonnaise stands out because it uses only egg yolks instead of whole eggs, as well as rice or apple cider vinegar, resulting in a richer, creamier, and tangier flavour, reports the Express.

The product is readily available at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, and online through Amazon.

For added zest, Caitlin sprinkles fresh chives and paprika on the egg, hailing the taste as “so good”.

How to make a boiled egg tastier

For eggs with a medium-hard consistency, a five to seven-minute boil will suffice – generally, hard boiling requires eight to 10 minutes.

Remove the eggs from the boiling water and immerse them in a bowl of ice-cold water for a couple of minutes.

While keeping the eggs underwater, peel off the shells, then proceed to cut the peeled eggs in half.

Arrange the halves on a serving dish, dollop a bit of Kewpie mayonnaise on each one, and snip some fresh chives over them with scissors. A dash of paprika is the final touch before you tuck in.

Those on TikTok who’ve sampled this recipe say they’ve found a newfound appreciation for hard-boiled eggs thanks to the tasty flavours.

One person said, “I’ve struggled with eating boiled eggs since I was little. The white throws me off. I’ve never ever enjoyed it; it was torture. I did this today and loved it!”

Someone else added: “I stopped getting egg ick once I started dressing up my hard-boiled eggs! Thank you for this.”

Another person said: “Thank you for this! I literally was wondering what to do with all my chives, and this was so goooood.”
