MANILA, Philippines — Philippine pugilist Jay Bryan Baricuatro took home the silver medal in the men’s 50-kilogram class in the 2025 World Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Baricuatro lost to hometown bet Sanzhar Tashkenbay via unanimous decision, 5-0, in the competition’s second leg in Kazakhstan.

During the tournament, he defeated Salvatore Attrattivo of Italy in the first round, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam of India in the quarterfinals, and Omar Izas of Australia in the semifinals.

It was, so far, the only medal won by a Philippine boxer in the World Boxing Cup, which had over 450 pugilists from 35 countries.

“I’ll just enjoy the rest of my day after getting this silver medal and next week back to the ground for the next challenges,” Baricautro said in a Facebook post.
