Race Across the World start date confirmed as BBC teases ‘toughest journey yet’
The new series of Race Across the World will see the teams travel more than 12,000km from Europe to Mongolia
The BBC has confirmed the start date for the latest series of Race Across the World.
The programme – which sees contestants travelling vast distances on limited budgets, without mobile phones and avoiding air travel – is returning for a sixth series, with the broadcaster announcing it will commence on Thursday, April 2.
The competing teams have also been unveiled, with best friends Jo and Kush, siblings Katie and Harrison, father and daughter Molly and Andrew, cousins Puja and Roshni, and in-laws Mark and Margo challenged with journeying from Europe “to the uncharted edges of Mongolia”.
Promising it will be “the toughest journey yet”, the BBC revealed the five teams will cover more than 12,000km across Europe and Asia, reports the Mirror.

Their path winds through countries including Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, before concluding on the shores of Lake Khövsgöl in northern Mongolia.
A preview clip released earlier this month offered a glimpse of the series, showing the participants wading through thick snow, riding horses, leaping from boats and attempting to hitch lifts.
One contestant was heard proclaiming “this is an adventure”, whilst another stated: “This race, it’s a lifetime of exploring in such a short amount of time. It’s going to open up a lot of doors not many people have the privilege to unlock.”
Viewers were thrilled to see some snippets from the upcoming race, with many sharing messages on social media saying they “can’t wait” after watching the trailer.
“Best news ever – I can’t wait to go on this journey with all of them!!” one person posted on Instagram, whilst another exclaimed: “Best programme is back!”
Former Race Across the World winner Alfie Watts was amongst those to comment, posting: “The best route of the lot. Good luck in Mongolia.”
The programme first aired in 2019 and has since broadcast five series, along with a celebrity spin-off edition.
Last year’s competition saw contestants journeying through China, Nepal and India, culminating at Kanniyakumari, the southernmost tip of India. The £20,000 prize was claimed by mother and son duo Caroline and Tom.
Race Across the World returns to iPlayer and BBC One for a sixth series on Thursday April 2.
